Paula Borges Cabral
Born to Portuguese Brazilian parents in Rio de Janerio, Paula trained locally under the tuition of Patricia Almeida, Patricia Marques, Eliana Caminada, Eric Caldo and Tatiana Leskova. At the age of 15 she entered the International Dance Competition in Brasilia where she won a silver medal with no gold awarded and was subsequently offered three full scholarships, making a choice to train in London, by Margaret Barbieri and Ian Webb both ex-principal dancers of the Royal Ballet Company in Convent Garden.
At the age of 17 Paula Achieved her first full time contract with Dresden Semperoper Ballet in Germany under the director ship of Vladimir Derevianko. After one year of work in Dresden Paula moved to Leipziger Ballet under the directorship of Uwe Scholz where she spent 4 years. At the change of directorship Paula moved back to Dresden under the director ship of Aaron Watkins where she had the opportunity of working with the prestigious British House choreographer David Dawson on many of his works; including his world premiere of “Giselle”
After 10 years working in Germany Paula moved back to England to be with her husband Michael Stojko (First Artist with the Royal Ballet at the time) and has continued to work as a professional ballet dancer with the English National Ballet under the directorship of both Wayne Eagling and Tamara Rojo. She has also made done some guest appearances with Peter Schaufuss Ballet and with Ballet Ireland. Her repertoire includes all the major classical ballets such as: Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, Coppelia, Romeo and Juliet and La Bayadere to name a few. Her neo-classical repertoire includes works by choreographers including William Forsythe, Jiri Kylian, Mats Ek, Balanchine, John Neymeier, John Cranko Derek Deane and Roland Petire.
Paula is now fully qualified within the ISTD and also within the progressing Ballet Technique and loves to impart her experience and wisdom to the upcoming new generation
Paula will be the Ballet Teacher for the Thursdays 4pm class.
